Beyond the Rainbow Bridge
This is a place to remember our canine companions who have crossed the rainbow bridge.
Gentileza do Mar
(Baluarte de Alvalade X Morena do Mar)

Born in 1984, Leza flew from New York to Arizona when she was 8 weeks old.
She was the founding bitch for Legado Portuguese Water Dogs and produced
three litters. All PWDs now at Legado are descendants of Leza and all possess
her love of the water if not her graceful, efficient and beautiful swimming
ability. She lived for 15 1/2 years and her love of life and especially the
water stayed with her for all those years.
CH Thor Of Dell Mountain, CD, ROM, POM
(Charlie de Alvalade X Isodora do Mar)
April 3, 1985 - April 28, 2000
After the untimely death of his owner Bill Flohr, Thor was purchased by Mart
Miller and Janis Watts. He was two years old at the time, had already earned
his Championship title at eleven months, was a multi-BOB winner and was shown
on a limited basis by Miller/Watts. He kept himself busy guarding over his
"women", the Ladies of Legado! He also earned his Companion Dog title, did
limited agility, and through the years became a noteworthy producer. Thor was
listed in the top ten PWD producers on several occasions, and was awarded the
Register of Merit and Producer of Merit Awards by the PWDCA. In his later
years he moved with Mart to the Verde Valley and remained with her as a
beloved pet and companion.
"Koko" Deerpark's Kinetic Cosette
Sire: "Max" Ch. Rising Star's Maximilian
Dam: "Jody" Deerpark Jodylaaguadearizona
October 20, 1992—October 7, 2003

Koko was our first Portie, coming to us just before Christmas, a dark brown mass of wiggles whose first
memorable act was to dive headfirst from our arms into a twenty-pound bag of puppy food. All we could
see was her tail sticking out! She was also our Einstein, sometimes too smart for OUR own good. When
she was three months old, she would move a hassock on casters across two rooms over to the pet gate so
that she could escape. Last year she was a special guest at our teen Medieval Mystery Night at our
branch of the Phoenix Public Library. Playing the part of the foraging peasant dog, she beat the
vacuum cleaner in a race to clean up the crumb littered floor.
We will miss Koko dearly and always hold her deep in our hearts, remembering the intelligent gleam in
her eye and the joy of living that she brought with her everywhere she went. Her playful and loving
spirit lives on in the memories of all our friends, both canine and human.
"Presley" Pressa Leao Aquatico
Sire and Dam: Unknown
? - March 7, 2004
Approximate age: 11 years
Human Family: Tim and Stephanie Rollins

Presley was a dignified gentleman. He came to us in 2001 as a skinny, abused, parasite-infested sweetheart whose
eyes melted our hearts. He was rescued by caring PWD lovers in the RSPWDC, fostered in a caring home and then came
to live with his new housemate and instant buddy, Elvas. Presley was the subject of an article about successful PWD
Rescue in the September/October, 2002 Courier magazine.
He happily completed the Delta Society Pet Partner training in the Fall of 2002 and spent many hours during the last
1 1/2 years of his life visiting in a local nursing home. He was a special favorite of the older ladies who would pat his curly
gray hair and remark how beautiful it was--and all natural!
“Keesa” Legados Borrasca De Bacavi
Sire: Ch. Tigre Preto do Mar
Dam: Ch. Gentileza do Mar
November 26, 1989 – April 2, 2004

Keesa Marie spent 14 years as the First Mate and very special canine companion to Jan Shirreffs and Pam Barnett.
She was a great dog with a wonderful temperament. She was a confident, gentle, adaptable, and loving dog. Each day,
up until her last, she dove into life looking for what surely must have been the next exciting adventure or another
tasty treat. More than anything, she enjoyed curly fries and soft ice cream.
Keesa was a great swimmer. She earned her Junior Water Dog Certificate at the ripe age of 12 years, after just 2 days of
training. If her Moms had started her water training a little earlier in her life, there is no telling how far she might
have gone.
Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, and oh, could she open gifts. Such enthusiasm. Anyone who saw her at last
year’s Holiday party knows what I mean. Keesa crossed Rainbow Bridge the same way she lived life, with style and grace
and confidence that all is well in this Universe. She is missed, but she’ll never be forgotten. She gave us so much in
so many ways.
Superior Desert Darcie
"Osita"
June 8, 1996--March 2, 2010
